The Summer Hackathon organised by Open Gateway and MongoDB brought together 22 teams of developers to create real solutions for specific business problems.
Over two days at Fundación Telefónica’s Campus 42 Madrid, the teams performed direct work in Open Gateway’s Sandbox, exploring how to apply advanced network capabilities such as number and identity verification to use cases with a direct impact on different sectors.
The above resulted in functional projects applicable to sectors such as leisure, logistics, health and cybersecurity. With almost twenty projects submitted, the jury, made up of Andrés Marín Martínez (MongoDB) and Telefónica directors David del Val, Agustín Cárdenas Fernández, Guillermo Bataller and Laura Lacarra, declared solutions related to logistics, health and cybersecurity as the winners.
The four projects that stood out at the 2025 Summer Hackathon
During this year’s Summer Hackathon, the developers impressed with innovative proposals addressing real challenges in various sectors, including leisure, logistics, health and cybersecurity.
Quak: logistics with traceability and trust
Quak excelled with a platform that can monitor the location and authenticity of fleets and containers in real time. Using advanced network capabilities such as precise location, line number verification and the detection of unauthorised changes to devices, this solution provides logistics companies with full control over their assets, indicating who operates them and under what conditions.
In a supply chain in which updates are performed every minute and any errors incur additional costs, this proposal guarantees efficiency, savings and trust for the benefit of logistics operators and end customers.
Watch Over Family (WoF): remote care for individuals
The third winning proposal focuses on health and care. Watch Over Family is an app geared towards the elderly and people in a situation of dependency, allowing them to request rapid help from a network of trusted contacts, including relatives, neighbours and guardians.
The network capabilities can verify the identities of both the users and their contacts, while the real-time location facilitates immediate responses during emergencies, streamlining the involvement of caregivers and close relatives.
Legitify: digital identity shielding
Finally, Legitify focused its innovation on digital security for fintechs and onboarding platforms. Its solution can detect fraud related to duplicate and swapped SIMs, validate identities and anticipate suspicious behaviour indicative of fraud attempts.
Combining biometrics, behavioural analytics and enriched network data, Legitify boasts a rapid and secure registration process.
TrustTicket: the solution to combat ticket resales
The winning team created TrustTicket, an app set to revolutionise the purchasing and use of tickets for admission to events.
The problems? Resale fraud, identity theft and misuse of tickets. Thanks to advanced network technologies such as line number verification, the detection of changes to SIMs and devices and real-time location verification, TrustTicket ensures that only original purchasers can activate their tickets with their legitimate mobiles when they attend an event.
This solution can be applied to concerts, festivals and sporting events, reducing losses from fraud and improving the attendee experience.
Telefónica Open Gateway, a network-centric business enabler
Thanks to the advanced networking capabilities available to developers and companies, sectors such as entertainment, logistics, healthcare and cybersecurity can transform their processes, enhance their value propositions and create more secure, efficient and distinctive products.
When such capabilities, previously reserved for operators, are opened up to any company in a standardised manner, the potential to innovate and scale business models can grow exponentially.
