The standardised Number Verification API allows you to increase the security of your users identity and credentials quickly, conveniently, reliably and securely.
This API provides a mechanism to automatically verify whether a user is interacting via a device that has a SIM card associated with a certain phone number (MSISDN). This means that the user doesn’t have to interact with any element or enter any kind of credential or one-time password (OTP).
By integrating Number Verification, you can incorporate reliable and secure authentication systems for your users without interrupting them in their sign-in process. By authenticating their data based on their mobile phone data, you offer users a seamless, more secure and more convenient experience when signing up or logging into your applications.
In addition, the Number Verification Unified API Access feature gives you access to the network capabilities of different carriers through a single, standardised interface.
With Number Verification, users can validate their phone number in a sign-up process and log in automatically after interacting with the application. Thus, the user does not have to exit and manually enter complex codes, and everything happens transparently using their connection information.
The use of telco carriers standard mechanisms to authenticate the connection allows the service to be adapted to a wide range of devices. It works on any Internet-enabled mobile device connected to the carrier's mobile data network, even when roaming. It is also available for devices connected to a Wi-Fi network if a temporary network transition is allowed.
The security of user data is key to an anti-fraud service. Avoiding manual mechanisms and providing a network-based trust mechanism to validate user identity provides the necessary security for sectors such as banking and financial technology. This enhances the range of services they can offer to their online users.
As it is a standardised API, you can integrate the Number Verification procedure into your applications without the need to customise implementations for each carrier. This simplifies the development process and reduces time to market.
The standardised API provides uniform access to other telco functions through a single interface. This ensures consistency and versatility across different carriers and markets.
The CAMARA-standardised API Number Verification promotes a consistent and reliable authentication experience for users, regardless of their telecom carrier. This uniformity improves the power of applications, unifying the user authentication experience.
Simplified and seamless onboarding
Social networking applications use the phone number as an identity when signing up new users, typically using SMS OTP. This mechanism is used to verify that the user is the actual owner of the mobile device associated with the phone number used for registration. But this registration interrupts the user's navigation and requires the user to interact with the SMS. However, using the Number Verification API, the application can request reliable and seamless authentication without interacting with the user. The service verifies possession of the phone number and provides a confirmation to the app that can be used as a valid identifier for that user.
Other APIs can improve security even more, such as SIM SWAP.
Used APIs
Automating login and transactions
The login process for certain mobile applications requires a manual process where users must prove that they are the owner of the device where they have signed in the application (Level of Authentication 2 or LOA2). This system is also used to authorise and perform transactions in banking applications. To do so, they employ the SMS-OTP method which allows the application to validate that the user is using the registered mobile phone and requires the user to interact, e.g. by copying and pasting a code. The Number Verification system is a more convenient and reliable alternative to this verification, as it allows these transactions and logins to be validated without user interaction.
Used APIs
Simplified password recovery
Password recovery often requires complex processes, including remembering certain personal data or accessing other applications, such as email, which can be difficult for some people to complete, such as the elderly. By integrating the Number Verification API, developers can employ the network as an identity verifier to initiate password recovery, ensuring that users can more easily and quickly regain access to their services.

Second-hand fashion with the latest in security
Vinted is a second-hand fashion e-commerce that allows its users to sell, buy and exchange items that they no longer use in order to give them a second life. Online sales of these products are growing exponentially thanks to the comfort and flexibility offered to users. However, companies are becoming exposed to new risks, including digital fraud and loss of user trust. With the integration of the Number Verification API, Vinted can add an additional layer of security to its registration processes to reduce the risks to its customers. This tool also simplifies the identification process, making the consumer experience more convenient and straightforward.

The CAMARA Number Verification API is a standardised API that provides a mechanism to automatically verify whether a user is interacting via a device that has a SIM card associated to a certain phone number (MSISDN). This means that the user doesn’t have to interact with any element or enter any kind of credential or one-time password (OTP).
CAMARA, the open-source project led by the Linux Foundation in collaboration with the GSMA, aims to universalise network APIs under the same standards for all telecommunications companies.
The GSMA plays a key role in setting standards and guidelines for silent authentication, ensuring consistency and interoperability across the industry.
The Unified API Access feature provides a single, standardised interface to access the telecommunications capabilities of different network carriers, simplifying integration for developers.
Silent authentication avoids the use of external tools or manual mechanisms such as one-time passwords via SMS when registering, logging in or validating transactions in mobile applications, improving the user experience with a higher overall conversion rate.
Number Verification employs network mechanisms to validate the user's device connection, ensuring that the application is running on the terminal associated with the phone number that identifies the user. By not requiring manual interaction or external applications, it not only enhances the experience, but also bolsters security.
The Number Verification service is based on the standard OAuth2 AuthCode mechanism for authentication and the standardised API Open Gateway Number Verification, which easily provides a true/false response based on the phone number provided by the user.
