Codemotion is one of the most important meetings of the year in the area of innovation and technology. Each year it allows attendees to expand their horizons through its varied programme of talks and experiences. In this way, new developments in the sector are shared so that tech lovers can improve their skills.
As you would expect, our experts at Telefónica Open Gateway joined the last conference to be held. Laura Lacarra, Senior Technology Evangelist of our project, was representing the company to talk about the telecommunications sector united in open source. Did you miss it? A tour of Codemotion 2024
There is nothing like a face-to-face meeting to feel part of a community and take advantage of all its benefits: interact with speakers, talk to tech leaders, connect with other developers and expand your network. Codemotion was no slouch in its latest edition. On 21 and 22 May, it held a large conference at Kinepolis in Ciudad de la Imagen (Madrid), offering the possibility to all those who were encouraged to attend to feel part of something unique and learn about technological trends.
With almost 100 different speakers, including leading figures from the world of technology, it provided a programme of keynotes and talks covering the latest topics of interest. Issues such as accelerating AI beyond conventional limits, how to effectively measure software quality, atomic programming habits and the possibilities offered by the openness of the web to developers were covered.
This last point was precisely the focus of the presentation by our expert Laura Lacarra. Under the title "API Networks: the telecoms industry united in open source", she spoke about how telcos are working together to make the industry's capabilities programmable. The main reason for the project was discussed, showing how the network has many capabilities that have so far been closed to developers.
It was also explained how through standardised Network APIs we make new functionalities available, to achieve more stable connectivity, more agile payments, increase customer awareness or prevent digital fraud. Finally, our Senior Technology Evangelist showed our Developer Hub (our lab for developers where they can test our APIs) and showed a demo of how to detect if someone has spoofed your identity by making a duplicate of your SIM.
If you were unable to attend, you can still watch our talk. Here is the full video of the talk, so you can find out all about what it is to make the network programmable, the global implications of the initiative and how we are organising to bring out Open Source multi-telco API standards.
