Device Status API

The Device Status API makes it possible to check the roaming status of a specific SIM-based device by using events from the operator networks.

This solution enables you to control your resource management during international roaming more securely.

What can it be used for?

By integrating this API you can enhance the user experience by enabling, for example, personalised offers for travel services, besides improving security by rapidly identifying and addressing potentially fraudulent SIM card locations.
Moreover, Device Status’s Unified API Access feature ensures that you can access the network capabilities of the different carriers via a single, standardised interface.

Improved user experience

Device Status enables companies to offer customised services. For example, the travel-related applications can use the data provided by the API to offer valuable information, including currency exchange rates and data package recommendations, to users visiting foreign countries. It improves the user experience and increases customer loyalty.

Cost optimisation

With the information provided by Device Status you can implement cost-saving measures, establish data routing rules and inform customers of profitable roaming options. Companies can thus effectively reduce the international roaming charges for their customers and enhance their range of services.

Fraud detection and prevention

By integrating this API you can integrate information into developments capable of triggering fraud alerts to identify and mitigate suspicious activities. It can automatically flag and respond to anomalies such as unusual SIM location changes and patterns, thereby improving application security. The above benefits both developers and users.

Simplified integration

As it’s a standardised API, you can integrate the Device Status service into your applications without the need for customised implementations for each carrier. This simplifies the development process and reduces the time to market.

Unified access to telco capabilities

The standardised API provides uniform access to other telco functions, such as whether or not a user is roaming, via a single interface. This ensures consistency and versatility across different carriers and markets.

A better development experience

The standardised Device Status API is designed for developers. It offers a rich and seamless development experience to enable the creation of applications with advanced capabilities.

Use cases

Transportation & logistics Media, entertainment & XR ICT Services

Avoid unexpected roaming charges

When it comes to managing mobile phone costs, every penny counts. The Device Status API facilitates real-time monitoring of the roaming status of your SIM card, ensuring that you never receive unpleasant surprises via your phone bill. This allows you to manage your data usage and explore cost-effective roaming options during a trip.

Effective connection with users in roaming status

Integrating the Device Status API enables companies and government bodies to maintain an effective connection with their users in roaming status. As they can verify the SIM roaming status of their users, they can send alerts and share relevant information in a timely manner, thus ensuring that their messages reach the right recipients. This maintains an open line of communication with users for sharing vital information and important updates.

Mitigation of fraud

Preventing and addressing fraudulent activities during banking transactions is key to a successful user experience. Device Status can detect and mitigate fraud in transactions that involve suspicious SIM cards potentially in roaming status. This increases the security of the transactions and guarantees the integrity of the users’ data.

Collecting valuable data from users in roaming status

Understanding users’ behaviour in their home country and beyond is key to enabling companies to improve their services and identifying emerging trends. The Device Status API can collect these data, which reveal, for example, the most popular travel destinations among users, peak times of activity, preferences for certain services and applications and usage discrepancies between different regions, in order to enrich services and improve the user experience.

Case studies

Financial services & insurances

More secure banking transactions

Daycoval is one of the best-known financial institutions in Brazil, with assets totalling over 13 billion dollars. Thanks to Open Gateway, it’s teamed up with Vivo, Telefónica’s carrier in Brazil, to explore the benefits that telco APIs can bring by enhancing the user experience in its digital services, such as increasing the security of its users’ banking transactions. By integrating the Device Status API it’s possible to ask the network to verify the location of a user’s SIM card and detect whether he/she is in roaming status. This information provides Daycoval with greater control over risks and increases its customers’ peace of mind.

The solution permits Daycoval to reinforce fraud prevention in its banking products by requesting the location of a user’s SIM card, once the customer’s prior consent has been received.
