Wayra unstoppable: a session that connected Open Gateway and startups at MWC24

At the last Mobile World Congress 2024, we had a session at the Telefónica Agora that allowed attendees to witness how we are transforming the telecommunications sector. Under the name "Wayra Unstoppable: A History of Telecommunications Transformation in the Open Gateway Galaxy”, the achievements, challenges and future visions of Open Gateway in the evolution of the industry were explored.
Wayra, which is part of Telefónica's open innovation area, played a key role, leading this round table that reviewed the benefits of the initiative for startups. In this way, thanks to his experience in accompanying companies in the implementation of new strategies, he was able to convey how the multi-telco initiative allows them to take advantage of investments in the sector and drive the growth of companies in any vertical.
The session took place on 28 February in the Agora of the Telefónica stand at Mobile World Congress 2014. With a round table format, it began by highlighting Wayra's journey throughout its more than 15 years of life, where it has positioned itself at the forefront of innovation from the moment of its creation. This branch of Telefónica has proven to be an essential driving force in tackling the challenges we face as a company, an industry and a driver of progress.
One of the highlights was the exploration of how Wayra has facilitated the adoption of Open Gateway in the industry. Through acceleration programmes, strategic partnerships and networking events, Wayra has managed to connect key players in the telco ecosystem. One of its most prominent initiatives was the Open Gateway Activation Programme: a programme launched at MWC23 to find startups worldwide with applications that could benefit from Telefónica Open Gateway APIs open to developers
In addition, the session featured testimonials from entrepreneurs and industry leaders, who explained the transformative impact that Open Gateway has had on their companies, even from a wide variety of sectors (Fintech, Identity, Anti-Fraud, Smart Mobility, Gaming, Web3 and Metaverse...). In this way, all attendees were able to see how collaboration with Wayra has enabled companies to achieve new levels of success and differentiation in the global market: optimisation of network infrastructure, creation of new business models...
In addition to reflecting on the success stories, the session also provided a vision for the future of Wayra and Open Gateway. With a focus on innovation and open collaboration, Telefónica and Wayra showed how the multi-telco initiative will revolutionise the development of digital services, bringing a new generation of applications that will benefit developers, aggregators, companies, users and, in short, the entire digital ecosystem.
In short, the session "Wayra Unstoppable: The "Open Gateway Galaxy Telecommunications Transformation Story" at Mobile World Congress 2024 was a showcase of the potential of this GSMA-led project and how it is already driving change in real companies.
